The human nature and spirit are very remarkable and fascinating to me. I love to people watch and when ever I do I marvel at what complex creatures we are. In so many ways we want to be the same and yet each of us has that powerful uniqueness that comes through in many ways on a daily basis. It comes through in the way we interact with others, how we dress ourselves and how we adapt to new and different situations. The ability to adapt quite quickly is the most fascinating human trait of all.
I was thinking about how quickly we adjust to new and different things the other day when I turned on my computer to look something up on the internet. We installed high speed internet services almost a year ago. Within minutes of turning on the computer I was looking at the information that I wanted. This quick access was something that I had come to expect, yet prior to high speed internet I was content with our dial up system because that is what I was accustom to. I was reminded of how slow our dial up service was when I was over at my neighbor’s house the other day. I had to walk over to her house to give her a message because their phone line was tied up with being on the internet. She had just disconnected the internet when I arrived. They try to be on for shorter periods of time so they are not tying up their phone line, but once they get on they like to complete as many things as possible because it takes so long. I was telling her about a community site I had found that outlined an event we were planning on attending. She asked me about a specific time detail that I could not remember. She said she would pull up the site. I forgot the amount of time that is wasted in doing dial up internet services, especially with our service provider. When it was peak use time, as it was when I was over at the neighbors, it is even slower. I could have walked back to my house turned on my computer and accessed the site with my high speed internet in the time it took hers to make the connection.
The next day she came to my house to finalize the plans for our outing to the community event. She had to walk over because her husband was on the internet and had the phone line tied up. As we were talking another detail came up where we needed clarification from the website information. She could not believe how fast the high speed internet service was. When she found out how reasonable the cost was she decided to order it for their house as well. The high speed service was only a few dollars a month more, and well worth the price when you considered the convenience.
